Last Ballerina Teaser Prepares Fans for June 2025 Release
Less than a month until the release of From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, the Ana de Armas–starring spin-off that will make its way to theaters on June 6, 2025. While waiting until the film’s release, Lionsgate has shared a new trailer to get fans amped for the ballerina assassin franchise spin-off, and it does not disappoint.
Set during John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the third film in the franchise, released in 2019. During those events, Keanu Reeves’ titular character is made “excommunicado” by the High Table after murdering crime boss Santino D’Antonio on the Continental Hotel grounds. As a result, Wick is forced to go on the run through New York City, with a multi-million-dollar bounty on his head. He eventually ends up at the Ruska Roma’s headquarters to find allies.
Run by the unknown Director (Anjelica Huston), the Ruska Roma became home to many people throughout Parabellum, particularly as a training ground for young recruits to join the crime syndicate. The Director’s pupils were not just ballerinas — they were ballerina-assassins. One such character was briefly seen in Parabellum in a scene where a young ballerina (Unity Phelan) danced on a stage. That was Eve Macarro, and she is the center of attention in Ballerina with Ana de Armas in the lead role.
Several other characters from the main John Wick series will return for Ballerina. Ian McShane will reprise his role as Winston, the Continental’s manager, as will Huston as the Director. Lance Reddick, who passed away in March 2023, also appears in a final role for the franchise as the Continental’s over-efficient concierge, Charon, which will be both a nice addition for fans but also an unfortunate reminder of the actor’s recent passing.
Gabriel Byrne, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Norman Reedus, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and David Castañeda all star in the spin-off film as well, with Byrne playing Chancellor, the film’s antagonist, who enlists the town to help in his mission against Eve. Duncan-Brewster plays Nogi, Eve’s mentor, and Reedus’ role is listed as Daniel Pine. Moreno and Castañeda’s roles in the film have not been officially released.
A Personal Vengeance with the Franchise’s Signature Style
Balladra’s first trailer was released in September 2024. It goes into the backstory of Eve and her history as a ballerina-assassin. Orphaned at a young age, Eve is recruited to the Ruska Roma and becomes driven by one task: to avenge the murder of her father. Her singular focus on the early trailer set her up for a character-driven film about her quest for vengeance, with very little to no focus on John Wick himself.
The second trailer for Ballerina dropped in March 2025 and gave fans what they were looking for — a full-on meeting between Ana de Armas’ Eve and Keanu Reeves’ John Wick in a snowy set. It did not give away much in terms of character details, but it promised a meeting between the two assassins and a larger screen presence for the franchise’s main character.
The latest, and what looks to be the final trailer, for Ballerina takes a more aggressive turn. It opens with a close-up of Ana de Armas’ Eve staring up, in one quick flash, caught in Keanu Reeves’ John Wick’s scope. The second trailer also featured a quick hint at some of Wick’s involvement in the film, but his presence was brief in both the earlier trailer and the new one.
The current trailer focuses on new footage and previously released sequences to form a faster-paced trailer filled with close-quarters combat, gun battles, and dual-wielding. It also brings attention to Ana de Armas’ ability to do many of her stunts and showcases a violent and balletic fight sequence between Eve and multiple opponents. One line from the trailer puts Eve’s motivations front and center: “This isn’t done until they’re dead.” It encapsulates the character’s spirit but also the entire series as a whole — a trilogy of movies that has explored revenge, survival, and the extreme costs associated with both.
Ballerina also has the freedom to venture into some uncharted territory with Wick, as both Ana de Armas’ Eve and Keanu Reeves’ John Wick’s storylines are interwoven into the film without being the primary focus on either. The final trailer is a perfect indication that the film will not only contain the intimate, character-driven focus from the first one, but it will also contain much of the large-scale action and choreography that have been the main reasons behind the franchise’s success over the past decade.
The film From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is set to dance its way into theaters on June 6, 2025. Fans of the franchise will get another chance to dive into the stylish, violent, and surprisingly emotional universe the John Wick series has been building for over ten years, only this time through the perspective of a new and deadly assassin.
