Jurassic World Rebirth Cast Includes ScarJo, Mahershala Ali, and More

Universal Pictures has released the latest trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth just one month before the fourth Jurassic World and seventh film overall in the franchise lands in theaters for the Fourth of July weekend. Jurassic World Rebirth arrives in theaters on July 2, 2025. The film, directed by Gareth Edwards, stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Bechir Sylvain, Ed Skrein, and Philippine Velge.

Jurassic World Rebirth is a new beginning for the franchise, but it is also a return to the Jurassic Park research island where it all began. In addition to a new cast of characters and a scientist/hit team sent on a high-risk mission to acquire dinosaur genetic material for a new life-saving drug, the trailer also reveals that this latest adventure is set in a world where dinosaur populations are dwindling and at risk of extinction. After five years of research following the events of Jurassic World Dominion, dinosaurs can only survive in small patches in the tropical regions. The last remaining dinosaurs, large and small, now occupy different islands in the remaining equatorial zonesmdash;places with climates similar to their prehistoric ecosystems.

Scarlett Johansson plays Zora Bennett, the leader of the group of scientists and former military operatives that have been sent on a mission into one such tropical biosphere to steal genetic material from the largest dinosaur of each category: land, sea, and air. Each animal has a unique genetic code that scientists believe could unlock a new life-saving drug. The group9s incursion into the island is threatened when the area is also discovered by an unsuspecting family of boaters that find their vacation turned into a fight for survival against a hungry marine dinosaur. The survivors of the attack are marooned on an old, abandoned island that once housed a secret Jurassic Park research facility. The trailer also confirms that the new Island of Dr. Wu holds secrets much older and more sinister than those left behind by the original Jurassic Park project.

Cast and Crew

Jurassic World: Rebirth director Gareth Edwards previously worked with Universal and producer Max Davis on Godzilla in 2014. Writer David Koepp is returning to the franchise for the first time since Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997. The film has an all-star cast that includes Koepp veterans Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Ed Skrein, in addition to newcomers Rupert Friend, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacano, Audrina Miranda, and Bechir Sylvain. Philippine Velge also appears in an unknown role.

The new trailer makes good use of the footage already seen in February9s first teaser, such as long shots showing the magnitude of dinosaurs up close. The latest trailer also features a new sequence that immediately lets the audience know this film is not afraid to show some things that have been implied but not shown in prior films. The opening scene, which shows a lab worker in a hazmat suit cornered by a ravenous T-Rex, is both loud and brutal. Screaming as he9s dragged through the air by a bite on his helmet, the worker is a sign of what is to come in the film.

Fans also get their first look at one of the film9s high-stakes set pieces as one character mentions a plan to steal a pterosaur egg. The creature is later revealed to be a Quetzalcoatlus northropi, a flying carnivore the size of an F-16. Raptors are featured as well, and new aquatic dinosaurs are also on display in this teaser, including a mosasaur seen off-screen during one of the boating sequences. Dialogue in the trailer also confirms that this new Island of Dr. Wu was used as a dumping ground for the worst of the worst in the world9s largest and most unstable dinosaurs, such as T-Rex, mosasaurs, and, as it is later called in the trailer, The Missing Link.

A New Start?

Jurassic World Rebirth is both a new beginning and a return to the franchise9s roots. After five films, the Jurassic World series is starting fresh, but with some callbacks to the first movie as well. The original Jurassic Park research island is back, which promises to elicit strong responses from fans of the first film. A new threat on a mysterious island is also in the works. Plus, the mystery of what The Missing Link is and where it9s located is set to upend everything we know about the franchise9s timeline.

From the new teaser, it is clear that Rebirth is not afraid to get back to some of the darker, gorier aspects of the films that fans liked from the early days. The film is also still focused on high-concept science, moral ambiguity, and everyday life getting a little bit stranger. A diverse and elite cast on a high-stakes mission, the biggest dinosaurs on land and in the sea, and a new mutation discovered in dinosaur genetic samples all point to a film that mixes what we love about these characters and films with new mysteries and more teeth.

Jurassic World Rebirth promises more creature action as well, such as another glimpse of the elusive Abryanchus, or D.B. Cooper, mentioned by one of the characters in the trailer. The preview also features several close calls for the characters, including quick-panic escapes and last-minute escapes from multiple dinosaur attacks. Johansson, with the help of the other team members, looks to be taking a more tactical, gritty, and dangerous turn on the typical formula as well.

Jurassic World: Rebirth is scheduled to open in theaters on July 2, 2025.
